PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Van Note-Harvey Associates provided civil engineering, environmental consulting and surveying services to Princeton University for this $28 million, 5.3-megawatt solar collector field containing 16,500 SunPower photovoltaic panels. Expected to be one of the largest single installations at a U.S. college or university, the field will generate approximately eight million kilowatt-hours per year, enough to meet 5.5 percent of the total annual campus electrical needs and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 3,090 metric tons per year. The University has also previously installed solar panels on the Frick Chemistry Laboratory, and the Research Collections and Preservation Consortium Building. The 27 acre West Windsor project site is located adjacent to Princeton’s main campus between the New Jersey Transit “Dinky” spur line, the Delaware and Raritan Canal, Washington Road, and Route 1.
