Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad

VNHA provided site/civil engineering design, environmental consulting, land use permitting assistance, and land surveying services for the construction of a new $8 Million, 15,000-sq. ft. headquarters building for the relocation of the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad (PFARS) from their current home on North Harrison Street in Princeton. The site of the new building will be located near the geographical center of the merged Municipality of Princeton. The updated facility will provide improved response times to Princeton residents and provide a larger space for emergency vehicles, training rooms, sleeping quarters for emergency overnight crews, equipment storage, and improve upon the services they currently provide to the Princeton community.

In support of the new building, proposed site improvements include municipal roadway improvements and restriping, construction of a driveway apron for primary response vehicles, a 17-space parking lot, traffic signalization improvements, sidewalk reconstruction, a small patio area, and site landscaping and lighting.

To meet the governing criteria of the various review agencies, a combination of low impact development techniques and non-structural stormwater strategies are incorporated into the site design. The new building will have runoff piped to an underground storage system to temporarily detain rooftop runoff. A portion of the new parking lot will include two interconnected rain gardens located on the east and west side of the site. The driveway apron will have a trench drain placed along Valley Road to collect and treat runoff. The rain gardens will provide the required water quality treatment as well as provide peak rate reductions for stormwater runoff leaving the site via a vegetated swale. Utility services will be provided via connections or extensions to the existing utilities within the surrounding roads.

Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2019 and expect to take 12 months to complete.
