Van Note-Harvey Associates, Inc., is celebrating our 125-year anniversary in 2019. VNHA enjoys a long history of providing professional engineering, environmental and surveying services to the regions surrounding our Princeton and Cape May Court House offices, assisting in engineering design and development for several municipalities and countless public and private clients.
VNHA traces our origins back to Charles Silas Sincerbeaux, a Princeton University graduate who opened his engineering and land surveying practice in Princeton in 1894. In early 1900, Sincerbeaux added partner G. Roland Moore and undertook the firm’s first survey work for Princeton University in 1903. The University remains a client today, along with numerous other academic, institutional, and corporate clients, architects, and other design professionals.
In July of 1960, partners Edward B. Van Note and William Harvey incorporated and changed the firm name to Van Note-Harvey Associates, Inc. Since that modest beginning, VNHA has been in continuous operation through several ownership transitions and name changes. Through the progression of environmental law and technological advances, complementary disciplines such as wastewater design, environmental compliance, construction phase management, and 3D laser scanning were integrated into our core services, progressing into a true, comprehensive engineering consulting service.
“The engineer’s world of tomorrow will be even more arduous than the present as we anticipate the evolving global and dynamic engineering landscape,” states VNHA President and CEO Donald Fetzer. “Sustainability requirements, emerging technology, and increasingly complex standards have gone beyond the boundaries of traditional disciplines, requiring flexibility and vision to conceptualize and prepare for future endeavors. Continuing to provide our clients with exemplary service take precedence in our organization.”
Presently, VNHA is engaging in an active and enthusiastic continuity of ownership transition to maintain a vibrant atmosphere and contribute new ideas, while continuing to incorporate the latest technology. Our longevity and sustained success is irrefutably the result of the commitment, flexibility, and responsiveness of our team, who recognize the firm’s role in leading the civil, environmental engineering and land surveying professions into the future.
We believe that it is conceivable to create feasible designs, that are sensitive to environmental constraints and regulations, which reflect an enduring form of responsible and functional integrity. Therein lies the firm’s greatest value and commitment to our clients – developing project approaches that address the realities of budget, time, and sustainability, yielding the most practical solution to every engineering challenge. VNHA maintains that goal on every project we take on and plans to continue for the interminable future.
To honor the firm’s 125-year anniversary and the legacy of its founder, a donation has been made to the Charles Silas Sincerbeaux Class of 1902 Scholarship at Princeton University, established in 2014 by the bequest of his late wife in tribute to her husband.
